Riz Khan Intro Treatments

Treatment 1-
An execution based upon geometric patterns that constantly move,
interact and evolve creating a sense of dynamism.
Though the palate is primarily bold, modern colours they are balanced
by using deep tones/blacks that help retain a sense of structure.
Clean sharp edges of the shapes add to an overall modern, fresh, youthful feeling.

Base concept-

Fluid geometric shapes that will either serve as a visual mask for Riz in negative or positive placement in the shapes as shown in the supplementary treatment.

Secondary Treatment-

A suggestion of how graphic images/footage of Riz may be used within the boundaries of the shapes. From repeating images that scale within the shapes to images that are masked by them, the intention is to further the sense of continual movement.

Supplementary Treatment-

An example of the decades old influence upon modern motion graphics, and how it can convey a sense of modernism.

Treatment 2-
A simple yet effective way of drawing the viewer inwards by forcing the background outwards
by using the text as a mask for Riz in various poses and lighting, static and moving through all planes creating a juxtaposition of variations of scenes with different lens lengths.

Base concept-

Typography (key-words) with key frames merging into the foreground, with images/footage of Riz conversing, showing expressive, variations of closeup, panning, wide shots through the text pulling the viewer into the foreground. Colour palette is reminiscent of Kodak 1970's with complimentary, yet narrow dynamic hues.

Treatment 3-
Using a classic grid system, combined with focusing upon details in the initial wide shot, draws the viewer to appreciate the subtle details of the art of 'interview'.
From wide shot of a direct question, to the focus of the warmth/connection of the facial expressions that may not be fully acknowledged without said closeup.

Base concept-

Imagine, if you will, instead of car parts, a wide shot of Riz (interviewing). Then the camera focuses on a slight smile, a hand gesture or a sense of empathy in the eye. Then that focus is exaggerated by multiply the footage many times, with the graphical layout reinforcing the emotion connection. I would suggest strongly, focusing upon those subtle nuances witnessed during the interviews, that there could be a mixture of Riz and the interviewed.

Supplementary treatment-

Although I suggest the colour treatment remain true to life, exaggerated colour may add a dynamic element to the footage. That being said, the grid system used in this footage would add more flexibility than in the base concept.

Treatment 4-
A very pictorial execution of the genre of of interviews,
stylised graphics that should portray the many complexities of the modern world.
Very text heavy, so the written word should be carefully considered,
as in this case it is more important than the visual metaphors.

Base concept-

More of a story telling exercise, supported by simple yet descriptive graphics. Narrative heavy, so its more about the world stage, and describing that through symbolism...Riz, and his style of interviewing will be visualised by typography rather than imagery.

Treatment 5-
An extremely flexible treatment, where the content can cover a great amount of subjects quickly. Showing both side/views of a particular subject, using almost pictorial imagery, presented in a quick pace.
The style of imagery could be considered rudimentary but its simplicity communicates the information as the pace of image refresh demands.

Base concept-

Three areas of communication, a central mediation area occupied by Riz, left and right opposing views. The colours I suggest are not as cold as in this example but more on brand for the station, perhaps monochrome and the central area being muted colour.

Supplementary treatment-

More urban/abstract in style than the Base concept, though that does lend itself to content that is non specific to the issues at origination, so has more longevity. I would suggest mixture of both styles on content.

Treatment 6-
Bringing a style that is dynamic and retrospective into a modern world, with bold direct flat graphics combined with colourful abstract flat backgrounds. The exaggerated movement of Riz conveys energy and focus, especially as it seems 3d in movement compared to its 2d monochrome execution.

Base concept-

Bold colours, simple abstract patterns with 2d figure breaking 3d boundary through movement.

Supporting example-

An example how monochrome graphics can suggest three dimensions through movement and scaling.

Supporting example-

Another example how monochrome graphics can suggest three dimensions through scaling and no movement by creating the illusion of depth.

Treatment 7-
Using a background as a platform for recreating the suggestion of memories, through staggered frames combined with the depiction of the interviewer in extreme close ups, polarises the two realms where they exist. The past seems 'unreal' and the person feels to be intimately 'real'.

Base concept-

Id suggest using the 'memory' wall flat to the viewer, while Riz reacts to the playback of clips of past interviews in closeup of those reactions. It would seem if he is reliving those moments but with the comfort of memory. Lighting would be important on Rizs face, just a hint of the level of light shown on he wall would help visually to join past and present both cinematically and emotionally.
